Re: Step II Class Action Contractual Grievance
Denial of Site Mini-Meetings
Article I. Purpose
Article II. Recognition
Article XXV. Non-Discrimination
Dear Mr. Nigro:
CWA Local 1081 submits this Step II Class Action Contractual Grievance to protest the content, and effect, of your attached memorandum of December 17, 2008, entitled “CWA Local 1081 Mini-Meetings”, which prohibits our Union from our long-held past practice of meeting regularly with our members within the offices of the Essex County Division of Welfare on break times. The express intent of your prohibition was to deny CWA Local 1081 the ability to discuss, and take, a strike vote at the respective scheduled mini-meetings, thus forcing our Union to hold the meetings outside in the cold and/or within the lobby of 10 Park Place, Newark.
The resolution CWA Local 1081 respectfully demands to this grievance consists of the following:
- The County shall withdraw its pronouncement prohibiting CWA Local 1081 from holding mini-meetings with our members regardless of the Union’s intended agenda content. We seek a hearing, in this regard.
Sincerely,
David H. Weiner, President, CWA Local 1081
