Re: Swine Flu Virus, Hand Washing & Hand Sanitizers

Dear Ms. Wilson Harley:

CWA Local 1081 respectfully submits this request the County of Essex arrange to ensure that all of the soap dispensers located within the restrooms of all three sites to which our Union members employed by the Essex County Division of Welfare are assigned (the County-owned 50 South Clinton Street, East Orange and the Hall of Records, Newark sites as well as the privately-owned 18 Rector Street, Newark site) are kept full at all times and that an adequate supply of paper towels are maintained within all three sites as well. In addition, we request the hand sanitizer dispensers located within those sites are also regularly maintained and kept filled.

As per CWA Local 1081’s attached memorandum of April 28, 2009, written our members and entitled “Swine Flu”, our research found that “Recommendations to prevent spread of the virus among humans include using standard infection control against influenza. This includes frequent washing of hands with soap and water or with alcohol-based hand sanitizers, especially after being out in public.” As per our Union’s attached Step III Class Action Contractual Grievance of April 23, 2009, entitled “Hand Sanitizers”, our agency’s ensuring the provision of kept full hand sanitizer dispensers has proved less than sterling. Our Union thanks you once again, in advance, for your anticipated expeditious cooperation with this sincere supplication.

Yours truly,

David H. Weiner, President
