TO: All CWA Local 1081 Members
FROM: David H. Weiner, President
Hemesh Shah, Secretary Treasurer
DATE: November 15, 2008
SUBJECT: Changed Date for Contract Ratification Vote
Please note that the Special Membership Meeting for the ratification vote on a successor contract has been changed from Thursday, December 4, 2008 to Tuesday, December 2, 2008 after our Union consulted further with the Administration. The reason for the change to December 2nd is to allow the Freeholder Board to approve the contract at their regularly scheduled meeting on December 4th, if our members vote to approve the contract on December 2nd, thus ensuring CWA Local 1081 members receive their retroactive raises before the end of 2008.
Following a productive meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, that included Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, his Chief of Staff Phil Alagia, CWA Local 1081 President David Weiner and Financial Secretary Hemesh Shah, the following meetings have been scheduled to consider and vote upon a proposed successor contract between our Union and the County of Essex:
Bargaining Committee Meeting: The Joint Bargaining Committee will meet on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 12:00 PM in the CWA Local 1081 office, 60 Park Place, Suite 504, Newark to consider the proposed contract. Union Time will have been pre-submitted for all attending.
Special Membership Meeting: A special membership meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 4:30 PM, at Seabra’s to consider the ratification of the contract, assuming it is approved and recommended by a majority vote of the Joint Bargaining Committee. A full presentation of the terms and conditions of the proposed contract, followed by a question and answer period, will precede a ratification vote. CWA Local 1081’s regularly scheduled November membership meeting will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at which time two runoff elections for officer positions will be simultaneously held behind the meeting’s sign-in desk. A separate notice will follow.
