SUBJECT: Election Results
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
CWA Local 1081 thanks all of our Union’s members who took part in yesterday’s historic and unprecedented election of Senator Barack Obama as President of the United States. In particular, we thank those members who, under the leadership of our Executive Vice President Greg Payton, worked the phone banks, canvassed New Jersey neighborhoods and traveled to Pennsylvania to ensure President-Elect Obama’s victory; a victory for all Americans and for all people of all of the nations on the face of the earth.
However, as Dr. King above implied, the hard part has just begun. Once the deserved euphoria begins to subside, the cold sober reality of the challenges and controversy we face will test our collective mettle as a nation as to just exactly where it is we stand. Now, more than ever, we must come together in the spirit of bipartisan brotherhood/sisterhood and fight to make Dr. King’s dream come true.
